NNo city has more historical and romantic wedding venues than New Orleans. There’s Jackson Square, Pirate’s Alley, The Moon Walk, Audubon Park, City Park, Fort Pike, Lakeshore Drive, and so many beautiful and historic plantation homes. The possibilities are almost endless. A few of these venues for New Orleans weddings are administered by the city and so need city approval.

For weddings in Jackson Square, contact the New Orleans Parks and Parkway Department at 504-658-3200. For weddings in City Park, contact the City Park Administrative Office at 504-482-4888. And for weddings in Audubon Park, contact the Audubon Nature Institute at 504-212-5301.

New Orleans Marriage License Information

In New Orleans it is possible for couples to obtain a marriage license and be married the same day. Throughout Louisiana a marriage license can be obtained at any time during the 30 days preceding the wedding ceremony. However, there is a 72 hour waiting period once the license is obtained. For out-of-state couples who are being married in New Orleans and who obtain the marriage license in New Orleans, New Orleans wedding officiants can do a waiver of the 72 hour waiting period. If the license is obtained at a courthouse outside of New Orleans, a judge will issue the waiver.

It is also worth noting that a license can be obtained at any courthouse throughout the state regardless of where the wedding takes place. The cost of obtaining a license may differ slightly from parish to parish but is typically around $30.00. To obtain a license, a certified copy of both birth certificates must be presented. If either party is divorced, then a copy of the divorce decree must also be presented. If both parties are not available to obtain the license, then either the bride or the groom may bring the appropriate documents to the courthouse. And when the ceremony takes place, the marriage license must be signed by the bride, the groom, the marriage officiant, and two adult witnesses
